Audio mastering is the process where the finer elements of raw sound recordings and unheard errors in the mixing process are corrected. It is also applied to various tracks within the same release package to make them a sufficient volume and minimise individual differences, for instance when they are released for retail as an album or EP.
A great track with a poor master can result in the track losing some of it’s potential. A great track with a GREAT master can give your music the impact it needs to stand out in the crowd!! Without proper mastering, your track might not reach it’s full potential. This is why it’s always good practice to have your music mastered properly at an established mastering studio that can fit within your current costs.
At the moment; many record labels try to make ends meet by cutting costs, which is understandable due to heavy file sharing across the internet and high-rising mastering costs from commercial studios; This unfortunately has resulted in an absence of in-house mastering with many labels, which in turn means that there is a huge difference in sound quality between labels & artists. This need not be the case.
